Fantastic article Katharina! I'm a Tesla investor, so I do have a bit of a bias. I admire Musk, and am biased to believe in things he positively professes (like, acceleration to renewable energy is an imperative and Tesla is playing its part in that effort). At the same time I have learned to be more skeptical of things Musk negatively professes (such as his dismissal of COVID-19).

I am very much willing to listen to advocates of hydrogen power, despite Musk's comments.

One of the things that convinced me about the viability of battery-powered electric cars was the clear calculation of TOTAL cost, from "well to wheel", comparing electric to gasoline.

That type of similar calculation of hydrogen power compared to battery-electric and to gasoline, would be convincing to a lot of people.

A series of such comparisons for today (with still-underdeveloped hydrogen infrastructure), to ten or twenty years out with more fully-developed H2 production might also help the case.

Cost is the critical driver of a technology's viability.

Best, S.D.
