Thank you John for reading and for your brilliant comments... you reminded me that as an engineer I took a course in Victorian Literature which was completely out of my regular itinerary of classes (I also took a drawing class with live models and all - those were my two outrageously wild class selections)... and social darwinism was one of the discussion topics and I was totally out of my element and uninformed about the full context and extent of that perversion of Darwinism.

Yes, the things technology is forcing us to consider, and their application of statistics via their algorithms, is clearly having outsized effects on society which may rival eugenics and social darwinism in scope and damage...
