Drugs are indeed an excellent “gateway” into the functioning of the brain, especially as we have a much better grasp of the structure of the drugs and sometimes the receptors which bind to it. This adds some specificity to the pharmacologic and subjective reports of the effects of the drug, and so with all three we can start to triangulate our way into psychosis and creativity with more precision.
