Totally agreed that we did, are doing, and will do some pretty horrendous things through our government, many at the express will of the people (Iraq war), some clandestinely in the name of the people (Iran/Contra), and a few explicitly against the people (Crack). Not surprising, since our govt is of the people, by the people, for the people — and each and every one of us is a highly imperfect person — which is why the central and most important element of our democracy is the checks and balances concept, so no one branch overpowers the others. Was it Churchill who said democracy is the worst form of government except for all the others… which is so completely true. As imperfect as our government is, I favor it over all the other forms ever tried, currently running, or being proposed.
